Landscape Gestures is intended to be a 4 channel video installation. Each video is a recoded performance in which I trace one of 4 shapes - triangle, square, circle and line - in response to the horizon line in each of the cardinal directions. I then then play the gestures on loop transitioning between red, green and blue filters. This piece is inspired by Walter De Maria's "Mile Long Drawing" and "Triangle, Circle, Square". This work. Like Walters "Mile Long Drawing" focuses on order, space, time, and measurement to explore some of the ways that people compartmentalize nature along with the human impulse to make marks in the external world. The Digital RGB reference is an attempt to overlay technology as a lens and framework for these gestures. Technology is a reflection of nature as well as nature itself.
Video was recorded at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah.
