2023 - Common Ground
What is common ground?
What does it look like?
Is it always a dialogue of violence?
Common Ground is a place that is nowhere and everywhere at the same time. It is a representation of the practice between humans and nature. This sculpture takes the form of an 11’ diameter interactive platform filled in with dirt from my local hometown of Antelope Valley, CA and mirrored topography lines depicting an imaginary landscape.
Inspired by the developments and events that lead to the demise of the pronghorn antelope from Antelope Valley, CA, Common Ground brings to the forefront questions of implication. Through a structured experience Common Ground utilizes the Implicated subject by Michael Rothberg as a framework to explore these questions. By shifting the gaze of the viewer between an active participant and a passive viewer we can begin to explore these questions in search for harmony within gestures of violence.
